    What People
    Are Saying

A short break at Windermere Suites!

"My boyfriend and I went to the Patterdale Suite at Windermere Suites for a 3 night. The suite was absolutely gorgeous and we loved the added touch of the romantic package, which was included with no added charge as they had an offer on! The bath was brilliant and with the TV on the wall above, was a great post-walk way to warm up and chill out at the same time! The service was great and the breakfast was nice - in particular the porridge which we got some pear added to! Would love to come back again, felt well looked after and the location was perfect for long walks and visiting local restaurants in Bowness in the evening."

    Nothing short of excellent!

"I can honestly say it is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Upon arrival our bags were taken and we were shown to our room, which had everything you would want and more. The staff were excellent, rooms were of a good size (we stayed in the Patterdale suite), the hotel in general was impeccably decorated and cleaned to the highest of standards. The room itself was spacious, had plenty of room in the cloakroom to leave our walking gear and suitcases. The bathroom, with its walk in shower and double jacuzzi bath with tv and mood lighting was just what a romantic getaway needed. Location wise it is a stone’s throw away from Windermere village so there are a few pubs and places to eat to choose from. The staff at the hotel are extremely helpful and polite, and were very good at ensuring they answered all questions you may have upon arrival."

A huge dose of luxury! Well worth splashing out for!

"We stayed in the Patterdale Suite which has a comfortable sofa, dining table for two, great comfy bed, spacious walk in shower and huge bath. For a little extra I ordered Rose Petals and chocolate-dipped strawberries which were nicely arranged on the bed when we entered the room. (Just two of the many 'extras' you can order which I think is a great touch especially for couples going away for a special occasion!) The staff at check-in were very friendly and although we were earlier than the normal check-in time we were shown straight to our room which had already been prepared. The room itself was immaculate, with all white furnishings it had to be. There was plenty of room to unpack your bag no matter how long you were staying, with hangers and drawer space in the walk in closet, accompanied by the well stocked mini bar, which was reasonably priced. The bathroom was very large with underfloor heating and programmable coloured lighting which is easily operated or turned off depending on your personal preference. We were given a menu card to order our breakfast which we handed in on our way out to tea. There was plenty of choice which would suit all tastes. Breakfast is served direct to your room at a selection of times which you can choose from. It arrived the next day with a smile on a trolley. The cooked breakfast was hot and delicious, the coffee was fresh and the juice was nicely chilled. It was everything we expected. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Patterdale suite and will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you to all the staff who made us feel welcome and made our stay excellent."

    Things to do

Patterdale is known as a walkers’ valley and acts as a great starting point for Helvellyn, Glenridding Dodd, High Street and Fairfield (to name but a few). Or for a truly relaxing way to spend a day, the Ullswater Steamers are the perfect way to see this beautiful lake.

    Patterdale

A small village at the foot of Ullswater, Patterdale is popular for walkers wanting to explore Helvellyn and the surrounding peaks and fells.

    The location

Patterdale is a small village close to Ullswater and can be reached via the Kirkstone Pass from Ambleside and Troutbeck. It is ideally placed for various hill walks, in particular Striding Edge up to Helvellyn, Place Fell, the Red Screes or a more leisurely walk around Ullswater, one of the Lake District’s largest lakes at around 9 miles in length. It’s also close to one of the Lake District’s smallest lakes (or largest tarns depending who you speak to) Brothers Water.

    Did you know?

Brothers Water began life as Broad Water until two brothers drowned in the lake (tarn) in the 19th century, prompting it to be renamed. Alfred Wainwright considered Patterdale one of his favourite valleys.

    Famous people

Or rather famous dog. The Patterdale Terrier is a working dog breed which originates from the Lake District. Generally about 10 – 12 inches in height, the modern day Patterdale Terrier has a smooth black coat, although historically the colour of the coat was prone to some variation.
