Room for romance reviewer Mark MacGee picked Hawkshead and Coniston as his favourite suites, here’s what he had to say…

“BOUTIQUE HOTEL ELEGANCE meets funky private retreat at Windermere Suites. With double jacuzzi baths and every comfort indoors plus the Lake District on your doorstep, this is a place for spoiling and seclusion.

Eight individual and lavishly appointed suites at this five star guesthouse deliver hands-down on seductive style, minutes from the shores of Lake Windermere. Forget traditional Lakeland cheery chintz – this is all metropolitan chic and super-cool bathrooms.

All eight Windermere Suites score on luxe and cosseting comfort. Expect designer furniture, chromatherapy mood lighting, 42 inch wall-mounted TVs, underfloor heating and – best of all – an oversize double jacuzzi bath for decadent soaks à deux. Three suites – Coniston, Bowness and Ambleside – have an outside terrace, while two (Keswick and Cartmel) have high lofted ceilings and Juliet balconies.

Bathtime for two

Named after towns in the Lake district, each suite has a separate living area, with black walnut flooring, a hand crafted super-king bed and iPod docking station. Bathrooms are palatial, decked out with Italian glass tiling, oversize showerheads and a tile TV to watch from your jacuzzi bath for two. Naturally there’s free wi-fi and a well stocked minibar, as well as fluffy robes and pampering potions.

Favourite suites include Coniston – a sprawling 460 sq ft complete with hand made silver leaf super-king bed, Philippe Starck furnishings, fibre optic fire and private patio. Hawkshead – carpeted throughout – is another big fave.

Breakfast is served in-suite each morning, so look forward to a late lie-in. There’s no need to dress for dinner, either – just order supper or some light bites from the room service menu.

Romance is alive and well at Windermere Suites.”

Last night I attended the 11th Cumbria Tourism Awards ceremony and was thrilled to be awarded Guest Accommodation of the Year 2013!

We now have a handcrafted glass award and certificate to sit alongside our other awards from the AA, the Times, the British Travel Awards, and TripAdvisor.

Thanks to Cumbria Tourism for a very lovely evening, and thanks to my staff who work really hard to put us ahead of the competition and to make our guest accommodation the best in Cumbria.

We’ll now go through to the UK awards so keep your fingers crossed!

The Windermere Suites is all about sumptuous, get-away-from-it-all style, so we’re really chuffed to have been recognised as having one of the best designed hotel interiors in the North.

I was also asked to share my secrets on the hotel’s style for a magazine feature on recreating hotel luxury at home. Here’s what they had to say about our style:

“Each suite has its own individual colour palette and styling but complements the others to produce an overall feel of contemporary luxury. From the silvers and greys of the Ambleside and Bowness suites to the white and pearlescent finishes in the Grasmere suite, this is monochromatic interior design with a clever, modern, luxurious twist of metallics, pearlescents and textures. Snakeskin sofas line up with perspex tables and chairs, and bold floral fabrics in dark and sumptuous colourways.

The bathrooms are designed to be shared and to impress, with Italian designer glass tiles, oversized double air baths, oversized showers with LED showerheads, under floor heating, LED taps, bathroom TV and ‘chromatherapy’ mood ambience lighting. Think deep, deep baths and the most romantic and soothing lighting around.

The bedrooms pack a real design punch with luxury schemes and stunning individual pieces. The Frank Hudson beds dominate the space (Wills & Kate are rumoured to sleep in one) and the walnut flooring gives an immediate impression of opulence. Crystal lighting, Tektura wall coverings, and coordinating luxurious soft furnishings complete the contemporary look, while the discrete in-room dining areas, where breakfast and light snacks are served on Villeroy and Boch crockery, glassware and cutlery, make your stay even more romantic.”

luxury winter break in Windermere

Wow! The weather in the Lake District, luxury hotels windermere is amazing at the moment and we are enjoying some spectacular sunsets over the lake each evening.

And you don’t have to go far from the Windermere Suites to find a great spot to take it all in. Simply ask us when you arrive and we can recommend a lovely bar with a terrace and tasty sundowners, or a short walk to a fabulous spot for a picnic and a bottle of fizz.

Wish you were here…

I’ve had a really, really exciting day today ordering lots of gorgeous new products for our mini bars. A stay here is all about the little touches and treats that make it special, so I have just ordered a selection of delicious chocolates from a luxury chocolate shop in the Lakes and some Jelly Belly beans and mints too. Next time you’re here and feeling a bit peckish, I bet you’ll be glad I took the time to work my way conscientiously through all of those samples – it’s a tough job, but someone has to do it!
