    What People
    Are Saying

    Absolutely amazing!

"We stayed in the Hawkshead Suite, one word, WOW! It was very spacious and luxurious the room was furnished to a very high standard it was perfect. The bathroom was lovely with its walk in shower and double Jacuzzi bath the heated floor and mood lights made it extra cosy. We booked the romantic package, it was lovely to have champagne on ice waiting for us, rose petals on the bed, flowers and fresh Strawberries dipped in chocolate. For breakfast you get to choose from a wide selection of options and pick a time when you would like it brought to your room, our breakfast arrived on the dot it was delicious just what we needed for the day ahead. It was so nice to enjoy breakfast in the privacy of our own room. All in all we had a lovely night away. The Windermere suites are well worth a visit for a special treat and a bit of luxury. Perfect for a romantic break, we will definitely be returning."

    Fabulous!

"Spent a luxurious night in the Hawkshead Suite. Greeted on arrival by Byron and taken to our fabulous room where we were shown all the controls for bathroom lighting, heating, air bath and TV. Our romantic package included champagne and chocolates, the glasses and chocolate box were artfully laid out on the enormous bed, strewn with rose petals, and the champagne was sitting in an ice bucket awaiting our arrival. The bathroom had underfloor heating, controllable mood lighting and a double sized air-bath and was very comfortable. All was spotlessly clean. We went for a walk at the lakeside with clear directions from Byron, left our menu choices for breakfast at reception, and later dined in the next town at a very good Thai restaurant. We did not use the mini bar at all, but it was well stocked with decent brands of wines, spirits and other refreshments. The bed was comfortable, and despite being in a front room there was no road noise, although I slept so well I would not have noticed if there was. The next morning breakfast arrived at the time we had chosen, and was 'piping hot' (hurrah!) and proved to be very tasty. Thanks to the lovely friendly Vicky and Byron for a fabulous night away."

    Loved it here!

"The room we had 'Hawskead Suite' was amazing, the decoration is so unique, the beds were so comfy, jacuzzi bath was amazing and breakfast so tasty. I could go on all day so I will just say we will be back!! Thanks for a great stay!"

    Things to do

Hawkshead has a large pub to population ratio so a good place to visit if you fancy a drink! Alternatively, with Grizedale Forest not far away, you could do a bit of mountain biking or even try Go Ape! Hawkshead Grammar School Museum is open from April to October if you fancy experiencing classroom life from around 200 years ago. Or the Beatrix Potter Gallery exhibits some of Beatrix Potter’s original illustrations.

    Hawkshead

Arguably one of the prettiest villages in Cumbria, Hawkshead is nestled in the beautiful vale of Esthwaite.

    The location

Hawkshead, arguably one of the prettiest villages in Cumbria, is a collection of houses, archways, streets and squares that remain largely unspoiled and so maintain the charm and beauty which so captivated William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Hawkshead is situated in the heart of the Lake District close to Esthwaite Water, between Windermere and Coniston. It’s ideally situated for trips to Windermere and Bowness (via the ferry), as well as Coniston, Grizedale, Grasmere and Ambleside.

    Did you know?

If you fancy fishing, Esthwaite Water is the largest stocked lake in the north west of England. But you could find yourself in competition with the ospreys that visit the lake each year!

    Famous people

William Wordsworth went to Hawkshead Grammar School and to prove it he carved his initials in one of the desks. William Heelis, Beatrix Potter’s husband and a local solicitor, had his office in Hawkshead. This is now the Beatrix Potter Gallery.
