    What People
    Are Saying

Experience could hardly have been better

"My wife and I stayed for 1 night for our wedding anniversary and our experience could hardly have been better. The staff were very friendly and attentive and pro-active in offering help and information about the local area. The room was spotless, the highest standard of cleanliness I've experienced in a hotel. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was a definite highlight, particularly the air bath. Breakfast was great and though we didn't use it, the room service menu was very reasonably priced, as was the mini bar. We will definitely be returning, hopefully for a longer stay!"

    Excellent, more like a 7*!

"Stayed in the Grasmere suite. Honestly, we had to force ourselves to leave our suite to walk around and see the lake. It’s like our second home. Cosy and comfortable with all that one could want...airbath (jacuzzi) with disco lights, a TV in the bathroom (to watch in comfort while enjoying the bath), a comfortable couch, carpet and a very comfortable bed. An excellent breakfast with great variety included and fantastic personal room service. If we had the chance, we would rate it 7 star and would have easily paid double of what we did! One of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed in."

    Luxury, class and comfort. Perfect!

"My husband and I have stayed in some top class hotels - The Lowry and The Radisson Edwardian to name two - but this surpasses all that they have to offer in terms of the accommodation (we stayed in the Grasmere Suite), staff and breakfast. Absolutely everything is top spec and really well thought-out, even down to the waterfall taps with mood lighting! The fact that you can have your breakfast in your suite wearing a robe they've provided makes it even better. I can't use enough superlatives to describe how staying here made us feel. Fantastic just does not cover it. Worth every penny."

    A perfect romantic break away

"The Windermere Suites is a great choice for a perfect romantic break away. If you’re looking for a 5* celebrity-style getaway this is the place to stay. Location is fantastic only a five-minute walk to bars, restaurants and shops. But you won’t want to leave your room at all. The food is fantastic and breakfast is to die for. All your food is delivered to your room so you can keep on relaxing, the decor is second to no other hotel I have stayed in and the attention to detail was superb. The bathroom was amazing. A double Jacuzzi bath with mood lighting and a wonderful shower with an illuminated shower head. The room was supplied with a minibar containing spirits, wine, champagne and chocolate, I recommend the romantic package to add that extra wow factor. The romantic package consists of champagne, chocolates and rose petals. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and gave us a tour and told us everything we needed to know about the room. The room was totally spotless not even a speck of dust or dirt in sight, I didn't want to check out of the room. Will definitely be returning very soon, I highly recommend this hotel it is purely fantastic, A+++"

    The location

Grasmere is a delightful village in the heart of the Lake District. It is also the name of the lake on which the village stands. The village is overlooked by Helm Crag, also known as The Lion and the Lamb or The Old Lady at the Piano (depending on which way you are looking at it). These names have been used to describe the shapes of the rocks on Helm Crag’s summit. The village thrives on tourism, brought on by its most famous inhabitant, William Wordsworth. William Wordsworth described Grasmere as the loveliest spot that man hath ever found.

    Did you know?

Sting has a house in the area. There is a piece of land between the church and the river which has become the Wordsworth Daffodil Garden, where you can have an engraved stone set in the path. Among the names are Rolf Harris, Michael Ball and Gloria Hunniford.

    Famous people

William Wordsworth moved into Dove Cottage with his sister Dorothy in 1799 before eventually moving to Rydal Mount. William Wordsworth died while out walking in 1850. There is a simple tombstone for him and his wife, Mary, in the churchyard of St Oswald’s Church. Samuel Taylor Coleridge lived in Dove Cottage with William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy. Sarah Nelson, the original maker of the world famous Grasmere Gingerbread.

    Things to do

Pleasant walks around the lake or along the river. Hire a rowing boat on the lake, available from March to November. Take in a story by world-renowned storyteller, Taffy Thomas. Visit the Grasmere Gingerbread Shop, housed in the former village school, or the Heaton Cooper Studio where there is a permanent display of work by W Heaton Cooper and A Heaton Cooper, two of the most recognized watercolour artists of the Lake District. Or in the summer you can enjoy the Rushbearing Festival, the Lake Artists Society Summer Exhibition in Grasmere Village Hall or Grasmere Sports Day, one of the oldest and most popular events in the Lake District, which is held in late August every year.
