Cartmel, Cumbria

Just under 2.2 miles from Grange-over-Sands lies the lively village of Cartmel. Previously known as Kirkby in Cartmel, this medieval village was once part of Lancashire.

Famously known for its 12th Century medieval priory church, this historical village treats visitors to lovely little shops, characteristic accommodation and award-winning pubs and restaurants.

Recently crowned the ‘Home of the Sticky Toffee Pudding’, Cartmel is also recognised for its racecourse which attracts thousands of visitors each year from across the country. 

Other attractions in the area include the historic Holker Hall, a privately owned country house with stunning gardens. It’s also home to L’Enclume, Simon Rogan’s Michelin-starred restaurant.
